10 Questions PMs should be asking in 2026
Product Mgmt and AI
Many smart PMs I have good fortune of meeting, ask me how PM is going to shape with AI. There is a lot written around it already. But rather than writing my assertions, I wanted to create a discourse around it. And the best way to start a discourse is to ask good questions. It also ties to the fact that one of the essential habits of excellent PMs is asking good questions. With the progress of AI this year, this skill has become even more important.
In that spirit, we will be doing a 90-mins session on ‘10 Questions around Product Mgmt and AI in 2026’ this weekend. Along with the questions, I will offer my current thesis on this questions and collate inputs from folks attending the session. Here is a tentative list of 10 questions we would be covering:
Where does the PM function sit when eng or design teams can self-serve on specs, prioritization frameworks, and customer insights via AI?
What skills remain relevant for PMs? What gets redundant for PMs?
Does AI really increase the productivity of PMs? How much, and where?
How does the PM: Engineer ratio change?
What new skills must PM develop?
How do we evaluate PM performance when AI does the legwork?
Which PM archetypes thrive vs. struggle? Which new archetypes emerge?
How does the change affect PMs at various levels? Aspiring PMs, IC PMs, Product leaders, VPs/CPOs?
What really is a builder PM? Does every PM need to be a builder PM?
Does the headcount of PMs increase or decrease?
